Pre Kantian Rationalism: Descartes

This course is a graduate-level survey of the philosophy of Descartes. Topics discussed may include Descartes’ method, the metaphysics of the Meditations, his mechanistic conception of the physical world, including his conception of body, space, motion, and the laws of motion, his mechanistic conception of the human body and its functions, including sense perception, particularly vision, his dualism, and his theory of the passions.
